The system is not intended to replace academic or hospital-based innovation systems. It seeks to expand the network of possibilities, pool knowledge, make calls for proposals accessible, and enable pediatric surgery societies to become attractive and preferred partners for these institutions. How? By offering a national incubator—one that can be scaled internationally and adapted for adults—that is easy to contact. By offering internship opportunities for master’s students and doctoral candidates. By promoting translational research and testing innovations within an ethical and legal framework tailored to children and therefore beyond reproach.
